When a substance solidifies from its liquid state; its molecules come much closer to each other.

Thus, the density of the solid substance is higher than that of its liquid state, even if chemically it is same.

However, water is the only substance whose density reduces as it solidifies to become ice. So it is proved that the density of solids and liquids are influenced by the individual physical nature of the substances.
