Muscles work by contracting not extending. Thus the mechanics of a body powered by muscles needs to work with that property. Muscle groups are therefore paired, on to pull a lever one way on one side of the hinge and another to pull the other way on the other side. Muscles pull on bones by contracting. They generally operate in opposing pairs, allowing the bone to be moved back and forth by contracting alternating pairs.

muscle can perform function like pulling that is they can only contract as due to it only muscle are present in pairs and they function by pulling the bones against them to perform an action
