no non living objects donot exert any force but yes if a living body applies force on it then the body will move.For eg.a bat does not move by itself unless and untill we apply force on it.

Every time you get in a car, the car pushes you forward by a contact force to move you places. The car is not alive.

If you run your hand into a wall, the wall exerts and equal force in the opposite direction on your hand (which you may feel quite strongly). The wall is not alive.
