do not let the shadows of your past darken the doorstep of your future explain with reference to the narrator in The Address
Answers
The address refers to the post war reaction of the narrator when she 8s confronted with her past. The phrase, Do not let the shadows of your past darken the doorstep of your future, implies that the past always has an effect on the present and future. It is simple really. It is very much a frequent occurrence in all our lives. Say if a person was deeply betrayed by his very best friend , it would be very difficult for said person to trust another one again. Some people can move on from the past heart breaks and failures, learn the lesson and stay strong but there are some people who will cling to the past and make decisions based on what has already happened. As I said in the first example, if the betrayed person held on to the hurt, he could never be able to trust another even if said other is genuine. so in some way our past will always dictate our present at least partially. The thing we have to remember is that we must never let our past control the present completely.
