Plant cells respire, just as animal cells do. If they stop respiring, they will die. Remember that respiration is not the same as breathing, so take care - plants do not breathe.

We have seen that humans respire to break down the glucose in the food that they eat.Similarly,plants respire to break down the food that they make through photosynthesis.We know that plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen during photosynthesis.Additionally,Plants also take in oxygen for respiration and give out carbon dioxide.During the day photosynthesis is Predominant but at night,in the absence of sunlight,respiration is the primary active process.
