Just like us, plants need air to stay alive. Plant leaves use carbon dioxide from the air to make sugars and starches for the plant to use as food. Another plant part that needs air is the roots. Plant roots need oxygen to stay healthy and to do their job of gathering water and nutrients for the plant.

Yes, The roots of a plant respire.

Because The roots of a plant take up air from the spaces between the soil particles.Root hairs are in contact with the air in the soil particles. ... Carbon dioxide produced in the cells of the root duringrespiration goes out through the sameroot hair by the process of diffusion.

Hope this helps.... ♥♥♥♥
