No, it was not the first war of Indian independence. Before the revolt, many people knew that if they would unite they drive of the British. There were many minor wars going on a small scale. The Revolt of 1857 was the first war on a large scale. Thus people regard it as the first war of independence.

I completly dont agree with this statement because Since colinisation, many kingdoms or group of liberals have reevolted against Imperial rule. But, Untill 1857, such and widespreading revolt never took place which continued for a year. Most of North Indian kingdoms were involved in independence struggle , but all of them were failed in liberating India from Britesh rule. This war lacks lack of co-ordination and unity, most of these rebel leader fought only for thier own regions. 2.The national leader who could guide the rebeel forces were absent.
