No ,the snake was not conscious about the poet's presence.He looked around vaguely but didn't notice the poet.If he had been conscious then the snake wouldn't have mused in between drinking water nor would have taken so much time in drinking water.It would've vanished very quickly.

yes snake was conscious as poet said that snake was looking. at him as a cattle and he looked at the direction of poet
