"Appearances are often deceptive" is a known maxim. People like Lutkins do exist in real life. A story published in the Guardian newspaper on 26 November 2010 revealed that an imposter held meetings with the Afghan President. He claimed to be the Mullah Mansoor Akhtar, one of the top Taliban leaders. He received thousands of dollars as a goodwill gesture from the Afghan government, and meeting with him was approved by none other but by the US general McChrystal.
