Social reforms, as I understand, are the changes that are to be brought in the society for betterment.  Some actions are to be taken by the government so that fall members of a family live healthy and prosper in the society.  Publicity is given first to raise awareness among people and if there are any legal acts to be made, bills are also prepared by the government.  Many social reformists, activists, and NGOs contribute in this regard.

Perhaps in the last fifty years since Independence, a lot of reforms have been implemented.  Since the last three decades a lot of efforts went into change in social structure and thinking of people.

Nowadays there is not much further to do in terms of social reforms.  All aspects of social evil have been taken care of.  However, in some places perhaps some caste based discrimination still exists.  A lot of effort and laws have been passed regarding women equality and empowerment.

Bonded labour has been abolished.  Child labour is being taken care of and there is an act too.  Right to education, equality and other fundamental rights have been enhanced.  Right to information RTI  also been enacted.  Female foeticide and scanning of  pregnant ladies is banned and condemned.  The society is almost free of fake sadhus and blind faiths/beliefs.  People have a lot of monetary sense and scientific approach now.  Dependency on only one family member earning is also reduced nowadays.

Also people do not believe nowadays on fake quack doctors with some unknown plant medicines.  People go to doctors when their children are sick with chickenpox or measles rather than praying only to Goddess.  Blind beliefs on  devils, dead spirits and their haunting people, are also diminished.   Lack of toilets, public squatting and urination and hygienic environment problems are being tackled nowadays.

Perhaps some taboos exist regarding inter-caste marriages and inter-religion marriages.  Perhaps the domination of father or mother on their teen children still exists in some societies.

The reservation system for the welfare of SC/ST students, their education and employment has been there for the last 50 years.  Probably it will continue.  However, the reservation reform is introducing some problems for the other castes too.  Some other communities in O.C. category, which are economically weak, are facing stiff competition.  Dowry system probably continues.  Dowry, heavy expenditures and show-offs during marriages are treated as prestigious in some communities.  In some states girl childs education is free upto degree.  Also in some states money is given as gift in a marriage by the government to change the feeling in the minds of people that girls marriage and education are a burden.
