Friction is required for any object to move forward, like take an example for a car, it requires friction to move forward or else the wheels would keep spinning on one place,the wheels push the ground below to move forward, but friction dissipates some energy in the form of heat,sparks,sound which cause wear and tear of tyres. Hence friction is both good and evil.

Friction is the only reason why some energy is always lost in any mechanical process.
