Answer :
Yes. I agree that John Pescud uses his skills in sales to win his lady love.
Pescud first tried to befriend Colonel Allyn. In the beginning, he was confused and nervous about talking to him. So, he tried to sell him some plate-glass but soon he regained his composure and got over his nervousness. He was completely honest with him and told him everything about himself, his family background, salary and prospects and his little code of living. He did not even try to hide the fact that he wanted to marry his daughter Jessie. He asked Colonel Allyn to give him a chance to impress his beautiful daughter.
Due to his salesman skills, he was, thus, able to present himself as an honest, sincere and resolute person in front of Colonel Allyn. He denied any kinship with Sir Courtenay Pescud. He honestly answered all his questions and was able to impress him with his ability of listening to and narrating anecdotes and stories.
The lines '"So I told it to him. Laugh! I was wishing to myself that he was a customer. What a bill of glass I'd sell him!' show how John used his salesman skills to impress Colonel Allyn.
