Drainage system of harappa definitely indicate extensive town planning.

Followings are the argument for support:

1). Before building houses, roads and drains were laid out first. This ensured that sewage and unclean water will go to drain as soon as people start living in house.

2.) Drain with lid and fully closed drains were found. Drain with lid were connected to house and main closed drain were connected with many small closed lid drains.

Many cities in today's world show similarities with harappan cities.

Such as:

a.) Grid planning: in this structure roads are cut at right angle and houses are built in blocks. Eg. Chandigarh in India and many European cities.

b.) Drains : small drains from houses connects to main drain which is big and closed and carry large volume of sewage water

c) pillared hall : it was present in citadel of harappan cities and were used for political discussions. Today we have many such buildings located in cities such as parliament and legislative assemblies.

Harappan cities showed extensive and most advanced city planning of its contemporary time. Studying harappan cities, we can plan better Indian smart cities in future.
