They resented oppression by revenue officials, police, moneylenders, landlords and declared themselves independent under leadership of Sido and Kanhu. Their main motive was to remove British and outsiders from Santhal areas. This led to the rising of Santhal rebellion of 1854.

yes , I am agree that the santhal rebellion was a massive uprising because the British had gained control of their land and their forests and it's produce belonged to these ' outsiders ' .on June 39,June ,1855 ,a large group of santhals declared their independence,and decided to fight zamindars, money lenders and the British. on June 7, 1855 .the British sent police officials to arrest sidhu and kanhu , who were the leaders of the hul movement
