Do you agree with the view that casteism has not disappeared from Indian society?

Still have a question? Ask your own!

Yes, it hasn’t.

The problem is not caste-ism. The problem is the mentality of people to discriminate . It is like a cell which repeatedly splits itself to form new cells, When you are abroad every Indian is a brother/sister from another mother for you. When you are in India the same guyis a north Indian/madrasi/chinky for you. It is the general tendency of human beings to differentiate.

May be as generations pass, castes will become irrelevant but I am sure humans will find new ways to discriminate people.

My personal opinion, I don’t want caste-ism to end. There is something unique about each caste and religion; their way of living, their way of dressing, the rituals related to each one of them, their unique cuisine and lot more. I always found it a wonderful feeling to explore the diversity of our nation. What needs to be stopped is the vulgar practices and derogatory statements in the name of castes. Let’s enjoy our differences instead of fighting over it.

Some of the older aspects of caste are continuing.

. Even now, most people marry within their own caste or tribe.

. Untouchability has not ended completely, despite constitutional prohibition.

. The caste groups that had access to education under the old system have done very well in acquiring modern education as well.

. Those groups that did not have access to education or were prohibited from acquiring it have naturally lagged behind.

Caste continues to be closely linked to economic status.
