Do you agree with the view that the Revolt of 1857 was only a mutiny by the sepoys? Give reasons for your answer.

The revolt of 1857 is the first war of independence also known as sepoy mutiny. Not because only sepoys revolted against the East India company...it's because the sepoys became the immediate cause fire the mutiny.

I don’t agree with the view that 1857 rebellion was only a Sepoy mutiny.

I agree with RC Majumdar’s Statement who said that the 'so- called First National war of Independence in 1857 is neither First, nor National, nor a war of Independence'.

So, it was more than a Sepoy mutiny because Indian rulers took part in the revolt and not merely the soldiers. As soon as the Sepoy reached Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar and declared him the Emperor of india and leader of the revolt, at the very moment the revolt become political.
