According to statistical surveys, most people disapprove the current efforts that the United Nations is putting in restoring its duties on the global front. According to 2017 survey, 60% of the people included in the survey voted that the United Nations was doing a poor job.
In general, all the countries that are part of the UN should follow the policies of the UN. However, there are many UN countries that do not follow them all the time and individual countries act separately when they disagree with the U.N. As such, the U.N. is mostly serving as a forum for communication in between the nations, without any policy-making role.
Also, the people started having a less favorable view of the UN after the United Nations Security Council did not support the invasion of Iraq.
So, in general, although the policies and the efforts of the United Nations are helping quite a number of countries, it still seems to be lacking in certain aspects.
