There are two legends mentioned in the story. Chinese legend is about a Chinese emperor who had a habit of boiling his water before drinking it. Once a few leaves of the twigs burning under the pot fell into the water and gave a delicious flavour. Those leaves were tea leaves. According to the Indian legend, Bodhidharma cut off his eyelids because he felt sleepy during meditation. Ten tea plants grew out of the eyelids. When these tea leaves were boiled in water and drunk, it banished Bodhidharma’s sleep.
The Chinese legend seems more plausible than the Indian legend because tea plants growing out of eyelids is not possible and seems unrealistic. On the other hand, the Chinese legend seems realistic.
The deliciousness, simplicity and diversity in these flavours makes tea a popular beverage around the world .
