The percentage of the world's population living in urban areas is projected to increase from 54% in 2015 to 60% in 2030 and to 66% by 2050. This is particularly significant when considering that until the start of the 20th century only one in 10 people lived in urban areas

There are many reasons for increased urban growth in the developing world. Some of which are: increasing birth rates and decreasing death rates. improved health care in many developing countries leading to longer life expectancies
