Governor could have foiled Evans' escape if he had gone with his instincts. Governor had suspicion that Evans might make some secret plans to escape from the prison. He must have been more alert as he had been given the responsibility of ensuring Evans would not escape.

Prison authorities made many mistakes that helped Evans escape. The following mistakes were made:

1. They did not ensure that the teacher who was coming to the prison to teach him was genuine or an accomplice.

2. Officer Jackson allowed Evans to keep on wearing the red and white hat and could not confiscate his razor.

3. They agreed to Evans’s objection to Mr. Stephens’s presence in the cell and posted him outside his cell.

4. They did not double check the originality of Mc Leery.

5. They should have put a CCTV along with a microphone.

Taking advantage of the above mentioned mistakes, Evans easily fooled the prison authorities and escaped easily.
