In my opinion, reservations are bad because of the following reasons.
1. The obvious reason - True talent will not be encouraged. When almost half the seats are being given away with reservation, there is no room for real talent.
2. Lack of real caste-based problems - The main intention behind reservations itself is uplifting the backward communities. The caste-based problems and discriminations aren’t as prominent as they used to be. I am not saying that such problems are extinct now. There are people who are suppressed in many rural areas just because of their castes.
3. Already well-settled people people - There are people who are already well settled, with a good job and everything, but still make their kids use the reservation. This is the second-largest problem I find with reservations.
4. The way reservations work - I hate the way reservations work. Just imagine this. In a college with 20 seats, 10 seats are completely open category, 2 seats are reserved for SCs, 2 seats are reserved for STs, 3 seats are reserved for OBCs, and the remaining 4 seats are reserved for Financially backward communities (completely fictional numbers). Now, if a somebody from an SC gets a rank in the top 10, he is given the seat from the 10 seats in the open category, and not the 4 seats reserved for SCs. The same happens with all other categories too. This really really crushes proper talent.
5. Essential jobs - This is most important reason to why reservations should be removed, according to me. When I say essential jobs, I mean teachers, civil engineers, doctors, etc. Would a politician supporting reservations want to be operated by a doctor who got the job due to reservations? Would a pro-reservations politician allow a civil engineer who got his job by reservations to build his house? The lives of everybody depend on people of these jobs. They can’t be given away based on reservations. How bad would it be if a civil engineer who got his job through reservations designed a flyover (overpass) that later collapses, killing many?
