Do you know the name of the Victorian invention that causes the shape at the back of the dress?
Answers
In the mid 19th century, fashion took a different cause with the introduction of Crinolines. This were underskirts that enabled skirts to spread wider and fully and to attain their perfect shape especially at the back of the dress, the crinolines were however not efficient enough since they were big and caused accidents that lead to deaths of many women during this period, the crinoline was reduced in size as time went by, by 1870s crinolette and bustle replaced the crinoline due to their smaller sizes hence efficiency. In the 1840s Victoria introduced the corsets that were responsible for the shaping of the dresses, whale bones were also used to provide more shape, so the invention was corsets.

It is the Cage Crinolene. It was a dome shaped structure made from thin steel wires on which a fabric was put up and worn by ladies of that time.
It helped to create an unreal hourglass outline laying emphasis on the hips.
It also helped in creating a fashion statement at that time by illusioning a small waist along the corset.
With this invention, women could feel more free from heavy petticoats of the time and it was a more hygienic way of wearing clothes.
