Explanation:

Damaged seeds tends tend to float on water because they lack all the nutrients and ingredients that are required for the plant to grow. The become hollow from the inside which allows them to be filled with air. This leads them to become light in weight as compared to the healthy seeds.

Arabidopsis seeds rapidly release hydrophilic polysaccharides from the seed coat on imbibition. These form a heavy mucilage layer around the seed that makes it sink in water.
