As a teen cooking and eating vegetable was a learning experience. Nutrition did not exist. Nobody in the house had a high level of education. It was all about the taste. And I was more worried about cooking it right - not overcooking. That means I have to learn to get the fire right as I was cooking with firewood as fuel. The one kerosene stove was for simmering soup in pot then transferred to the wood-fired stove when it had a slow burn. All this while grandma was sitting in the kitchen giving me instruction repeatedly while I sweated.
