Gray langurs or Hanuman langurs, of the genus Semnopithecus, are the biggest and most common monkeys found in the Indian subcontinent.

Although protected under Schedule-II of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, activists note that because of rampant monkey menace, rich neighborhoods including bungalows and hotels rent langues from the organised mafia and use them to drive away other primates from their area.

Another barbaric trend seen is the killing of the Nilgiri langurs, an endangered species protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, for the supposed aphrodisiac nature of its meat.

Endangering wild animals is a strict violation of the empathetic and humane code of conduct mandatory in the preservation of civilized society.
