Explanation:

British colonization was both good and bad. Nothing in the world is totally bad. Even bad things can teach us a good lesson.

Although India was a strong and wealthy country, this very wealth attracted foreign invaders to loot us or rule over us and exploit us. Sometimes this was done in the name of religion and cultural invasion or economic colonization.

The reason for our defeat was not that we were not strong but we were not united politically as one single nation. We were ruled by different princely states who used to fight with one another. Invaders could get foothold just by defeating one small kingdom and spread further. We were culturally one but politically divided. So, foreign invaders could easily defeat us by playing divide and rule policy. These invaders not only wanted to rule us but also exploited us. Islamic invaders attacked Hinduism and tried to Islamize India through conversion and thus destroy our ancient culture.

But even an invader can do some good to the country to facilitate their own rule and to earn name and fame. British also did many good things like good administration, introduction of English language, rail connectivity, modern judicial system, start of democratic process etc but slavery, exploitation, persecution and conversion cannot be be better than these good things. Freedom is most dear to everybody, not slavery. So, despite some good things under the British rule, India rose in open revolt against the British to fight for a united India.

This fight for an independent, democratic, united India which resulted into independence of India in 1947, is the benifit of British rule. Now we are capable of defending ourselves even from nuclear powers like China and Pakistan. This is the gain of British rule in India that despite partition, we are now a strong, united nation. We have overcome our disunity and become united. We have converted poison into nectar.
