fungi were once called as non green plants. they are saprophytic in nature and derive their nutrition from dead and decayed organisms.

According to me, the fungus is more like plants than animals.
Two reasons which support my answer are:
a. A fungus is stationary and that is a typical identifying feature of a plant than an animal. Locomotion and movement are essential traits of animals and are absent in fungus making it more similar to plants.
b. Fungus generally reproduces through asexual means. Asexual reproduction is predominant in plants and very rare in animals. Though plants do reproduce sexually but it is non-existential or very negligible present in animals. Thus, the fungus is more like plants than animals.
