For anyone who’s reading this, I have written my answer. You can read this if you have a same doubt:-
According to me, a harmless lie is not acceptable but it definitely depends on the situation. Lies that are meant to protect others or ease their burdens are acceptable up to some extent but lies which are said to merely keep ourselves out of trouble are not acceptable at all.
For example, if someone asks you how you are feeling, it’s all right to tell a lie if you don’t really want to go on a full-fledged interrogation with someone you don’t really want to talk to but this also has its own defects as it helps if you talk it out with someone.
Telling a lie is only going to land us in a series of lies where you have to keep on lying until when even you won’t be able to differentiate between what’s the truth and what’s a lie. Even though, the truth can be harsh at times, it’s always better to get informed earlier than getting informed after a series of lies as the truth is going to come out at one point of time. So, according to me, a harmless lie should not be acceptable.
