Hiware Bazaar is a village in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. The village was known for droughts and water shortage. But Mr.Popatrao Pawar, a post graduate, changed the destiny of the village by adopting various policies.
After becoming unopposed Sarpach of the village he closed down illicit liquor shops in his village, introduced rain water harvesting program in his village. In order to increase food production drip irrigation system was adopted. Villagers started digging trenches around hills to trap water and build percolation tanks.
Along with this, under the leadership of dynamic leader Mr. Pawar, the village adopted family planning program, HIV/Aids testing before getting married, Shramadan (voluntary labour).
By adopting these and various other measures, the village has become a true example of socio-economic development. The village is crowned with many awards like National Water Award, Ideal Village and many more.
