Yes, she was justified in refusing to dance.

Aradhana was going to perform the inaugural item of the annual dance show of the Kamala Devi School of Dance. She had dressed up and was ready for the performance when Aunt Pramela and Dadima went backstage to meet her. Dadima was admiring Aradhana's figure and said that time was flying and soon it would be time to look for a suitable groom for her. Aunt Pramela nodded and said that it seems as if just yesterday Sunita had brought the skinny and dark child home.

Aradhana was very sensitive about her complexion. She felt very hurt. When Simmi, her sister tried to console her she gave a small laugh which sounded like a cry.

Aunt Pramela told grandmother that she always wanted Sunita to tell Aradhana the truth that she was an adopted child.

Aradhana was shocked and shattered to hear this. She wanted to know the truth and wished to be left alone. She was very upset so she did not want to perform the dance. So she was justified in refusing to dance.

Her mother convinced her that mother and father loved her very much. She presented a beautiful necklace to her as a token of their love for her. She agreed to dance for the sake of her mother who loved her unconditionally.
