This victory over Kalinga did not bring him any joy. Eventually, this war brought a complete change in Ashoka’s life. He gave up the war and become follower of Buddha. He spent rest of his life in the service of people. He came to be called as ‘Devanampriya’ meaning ‘the beloved of gods’
