I don't think he was right because even if Private Quelch was a show-off, he worked really hard for what he wanted and his hard work should have been paid off. So it was kind of unfair to Private Quelch. Corporal Turnbull could have talked to Private Quelch about that matter and told him to stop the behaviour which was inappropriate. But cutting off his reward by awarding him a post that didn't deserve such a hard-working person like Private Quelch is not justified in my point of view.
