Nowadays in most parts of the country the situation has changed in the treatment of the dalits as untouchables. Dalits also enjoy equal rights and access to temples, water resources and schools. The constitution of India, according to the Article 17 untouchability has been abolished. But even today in some remote areas untouchability is still practised.
