Answer: Kezia's father wasn't completely harsh. But this can be included that he was a very responsible father and in a strict way , he wanted his daughter to be well-disciplined. In the ending lines of the chapter - The little girl , it has been clearly said that her father loved her, though he never showed or expressed it.
If my father would be like Kezia's father then I would be feeling bad only till the time I wouldn't know that he loves me a lot. Parents always love their child even if they are very strict. We all must have noticed in our house that sometimes when we do mistakes, we are scolded by our parents. So, that doesn't mean that they don't love us , that clearly means that they are putting their hard efforts to make us a better person. If our parents want us to be disciplined so we should try our best to be disciplined , if they can do lots of things for us so why can't we?
My reaction in the starting would be full of sadness and anger but I would try to understand him. I will understand the situation properly.
