He invaded india at least 16 times between 1001 AD to 1026 AD. IN THAT PERIOD OF TIME, he attacked india every year, attacked towns and looted wealth from india and took them back yo his kingdom.
He was quite successful in his invasion but he never intended to rule india, however he merged some indian provinces into his kingdom. that too only because those were the gateway to come to india.
Due to his invasion and vandalising of temples , hindus became hostile to muslims for the first time.so, this would not have happened unless some other religious bigots attacked india.
Also, his invasions paved the way for many more attacks on india,
it is very hard to tell what would have happen because he left with absolutely no impacts on indain culture.
