It really depends on your goals for the game, who you are playing and the wider context of it. A lot of things really do have a wider context. Even on the chess board, when you play a pawn move, there is a wider context of the position to the move you just played and the squares the piece you touched are controlling now. You may have done a pawn move and liberated a bishop and rook at the same time :)
