It would all depend on the circumstances. I wouldn't necessarily say it's "right" but I do think it is okay to do so.  Animals are not created with immortal souls; humans are. It is that reason it is considered a mortal sin to kill a human being, but it isn't sinful to kill an animal. So in the above scenario, the death of the human would be considered a greater tragedy than the death of the animal, so sacrificing the animal for the human would be okay. For eg. you too kill an animal's life ,when the mosquitoes bite you , you kill them , if you have to eat chicken , you kill the hens. So , there's nothing bad killing an animal to save a human's life ,if the animal is harming you.

As even animals have rights to live.we people kill them for our use but if we kill animals then we will not get many things like wool from sheep and egg from hen. As you now their are also animals like scavengers and decomposers. Scavengers eat only dead plants and animals if we kill it then all our surroundings will be full of bad smell hence scavengers are important.   decomposers eat dead and decayed organisms hence decomposers are important.
