Yes. I think that killing animals to protect mankind is correct. 

To support my answer, I would say that survival is something that shouldn't be compromised with. If you don't kill maneating animals, you would as well as be dead. All dangerous animals can't be trapped. If something endangers your life, you have to kill it.

Tell me, do you not kill the pathogens inside your body when they cause diseases?
