YES!!! This is actually the reason why I work, and have been devoting my life to environmental education!!! There was a time that I was considering field research positions in the conservation field, but I believe that due to my teaching skills I personally make more of a difference in education.
Conservation efforts only succeed if they are designed, executed, and funded. The Endangered Species Act, EPA regulations, etc. all have politics in common. While these should be bipartisan issues, unfortunately they not always are. The first step in conservation is making citizens aware so they can make good decisions both in their lives and the voting booths. You need cooperation from citizens, state/local governments, and the federal government. Decisions in a democracy start with the citizens, they need to know the issues, band together, contact their representatives, and make a difference.
