We assimilate and, thereafter, adopt and display patterns of behaviour by coming in contact with people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and classes. Take for instance, the Sikhs who migrated to Canada nearly a century or more back. While they have adopted most of the things that Canadian society has had to offer for being accepted by that country, their culture too has been adopted by the indigenous population wherever the Sikhs have settled down in large numbers. Therefore, cultural contact has played a role in assimilation of cultures in both cases.
