It rather depends on what you mean by ‘right’.
Was Elizabeth morally right?
There is no doubt that Mary had expressed here support for the treasonable Babington plot, the purpose of which was to depose Elizabeth and to place Mary on the English throne. This was evidenced by letters written to Sir Anthony Babington by Mary’s secretaries in code. These letters had been intercepted and decoded by Thomas Phelippes. Her letters indisputably demonstrated her collusion in a treasonable plot. Worse still, Mary was at the same time confirming her undying loyalty to Elizabeth, in the hope of gaining Elizabeth’s support for the Association, a scheme to restore her to the joint rule of Scotland with her son, James. This demonstrated to Elizabeth that Mary was being thoroughly devious, and provided her with the moral grounds for her execution. The fact that the plot had no chance of success and had probably been planted by Cecil’s agents seems irrelevant, in considering Mary’s genuine intention to support it.
