Introduction of regional languages in IIT
FOR THE MOTION
By Aarohi Srikant
Warm greetings to one and all gathered here. I am Aarohi Srikant and I would like to express my views on the topic introduction of regional languages in IIT is not regressive or retrograde.
Under the New Education Policy (NEP), one of the major changes observed is the permission to carry out the courses IITs and NITs in vernacular medium. This is a great step which was much needed to remove the language barrier in our country. Our brain is more receptive to the teachings in our mother tongue.
It is alao worth noting that countries like Germany and Russia have been conducting classes in numerous regional languages.
All in all, I support this decision of our
authorities to introduce regional languages in IITs.
The government's decision to conduct classes in IIMs and IITs in vernacular languages is a very positive step from at least two perspectives.
To begin with, the shift from English to regional languages will allow students from all sections of society to be eligible for studying at the premium institutions, including those who have not studied in English medium schools, but are talented learners. It is a step towards equality in education.
Additionally, it showcases India's ability to embrace its own languages and not depend solely on a foreign language as a medium of instruction. In fact, many nations that are proud of their culture and are doing well, like Japan, China and France, have their education systems built around their own languages. It is an indication of breaking from the shackles of colonialism and developing an independent nation's identity.
Thus the step aims to tap more talent than was possible earlier, while also strengthening the cultural identity of the nation.
