According to the Munro system  introduced by Thomas Munro the Britishers collected revenue's directly. This was done directly from the tenants. Furthermore, this revenue was fixed at half of the rate of the value of the actual crop.

This happened during the British rule time period ad was set for about 30 years.

It helped because it removed the barrier of middle man making his own profit in between. The government was getting direct tax which made the government spending easier and justifiable.
