The fact that the British kept an exact record of their rule in India itself is sufficient to make us believe that they wanted to keep a detailed record of their dealings here in India. It is evident that the British kept the record of their office in India from 1600 to 1947 which includes documents relating to the administration of India under the Company Rule and British rule. Many records related to Gandhi's reactions and movements were marked as "Most Secret", "Very Secret" and "Top Secret" Such records do give us an insight that their records contained exact historical information. If they wanted to be manipulative, they could even do away with the process of recording.
