I think that the lady did know that it was Saint Peter, as Christianity was very famous at that time so was Saint Peter as he used to move around preaching people about Christianity, human-kind, sharing and caring.

I think that the lady was just to greedy and didn't care about the fact that he was 'Saint Peter'.
