The classification helps in ascertaining which sector contributes more or less to the country's GDP and per capita. It helps in providing information on where and how the people of the country are employed. Suppose the tertiary sector is performing well and and also developing faster than the primary sector. This would imply that agricultural sector is lagging and needs attention for improvement. The government must accordingly take measures to improve agriculture. This would have been possible only through knowing which sector agriculture belonged to. Hence it was necessary to classify of economic activities into theses three sectors for smooth administration and development.
