Do you think the story reinforces a stereotype that women are more trusting, forgiving and less practical than men? Why is that so? Comment with reference to Edla's actions in the story Rattrap

  • Yes this story tries to reinforce the stereotype by portraying Edla's softer and stereotypically considered feminine side.
  • But it also shows the importance of kindness and being soft and shows the change it can bring in a person more importantly a thief.
  • The Rattrap seller was more open and kind and displayed a change because of the faith Edla had in him.
  • Thus, while displaying a stereotype on one side it also enforces the moral that people can change when approached with softness.
