no never that is not true
we always fight with each other
like many north eastern people get molested in Delhi and south india
people from south and north india always blames each other
we always fight because of religion and it's one of the biggest issues at present
people always judge others because of their clothes and how they live
if we wanna live in unity in this diverse country then we have to change our thinking and make them live as they want because everyone here is Indian and every single person deserves freedom and can live his/her life as he/she wants...

From a point of view it is a correct term as it is mentioned in most of the textbooks and even great leaders have said it. India truly shows the feelings of Vasudhev Kutumbakam i.e. Whole world is a family because people of different religions such as Parsi,sikh,muslim,etc reside in India.
Also various festivals of different religions are celebrated unitedly in India.
Hence, for textual knowledge Unity in Diversity is an appropriate term to describe India
