Older maps weren't maps as we'd know them now. They were more like the walking maps many hikers use today that describe specific routes, but don't describe much beyond the path. So a merchant who had reason to travel long distances might acquire a route map that described the path between two cities, the villages along the way, places to get water etc.

yes,the use of maps has changed from the time of ancient Greeks to now

Greeks used maps to know more about the interiors of other countries to occupy or to trade with them

with the help of maps,they found shortcuts and secret routes

with this,they easily fought against the leaders and occupied them

but now we are using maps in several ways,say,for constructions,know about different places, landforms, latitudes and longitudes etc..
