Similar: Romans use maps to find and reach the destination directly with the accuracy of the map in faraway locations in ancient times whereas now these maps are used by travellers and tourists to is it foreign lands. The paper-based is reduced and digital maps in many more ways.

Differences: Mainly just for location finding alone in olden times, but now, they are being used for planning and development of countries like agriculture, industrial setting, road build-up, hospital and school identification, resource availability in a particular region, planning business and work.
